Acton Looking To Fill Deputy Fire Chief Position

ACTON, MA — The Acton Fire Department is looking for a new deputy chief. The town published the listing on its Facebook page on Wednesday. Acton's fire department has 32 firefighters, four lieutenants, four captains, an ALS medical coordinator, a deputy chief and chief.

The requirements for the deputy chief position include holding a Bachelor’s degree in fire science or fire administration and five years of progressive experience in a career fire department or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, or experience. The applicant must also possess EMT certification and a valid driver’s license.

In the job description, the town added that the future deputy chief must be able to handle and recognize that for the foreseeable future the Town of Acton will have limited financial resources, thus efficient utilization of existing resources will be of paramount importance.

All positions in the Acton Fire Department, except the chief and deputy chief are members of a collective bargaining unit. The Town does not use call firefighters.

The application deadline is June 22, 2020. The Town anticipates negotiating a competitive total compensation package with the selected candidate, DOQ in the range of $100,000 to $120,000. Applicants can send resumes with a cover letters to: recruitment.umb@gmail.com.
