Acton Resident Honored at University of Maine

Two concerts remaining at NARA Park in August.

1. Recently the University of Maine recognized 2,033 students for achieving Dean's List honors in the spring 2013 semester. Among them was:

  • Michael Duggan of Acton.
2. Acton residents downloaded almost 650 songs through the Freegal Music Service during July. Freegal offers access to over 3 million songs, from 10,000 music labels from around the globe. All genres are represented, including Pop, Rock, Country, Classical, Jazz, Alternative, Folk and Latin.

Every Acton resident with a current library card can download and keep three songs per week in MP3 format. Users may download songs directly to a computer or use the free mobile app available in the Apple App Store and Google Playstores.   • Friday, Aug. 23, 4 p.m., Free Concert at T.J. O'Grady Skate Park, 66 Hayward Road for the T.J. O'Grady Memorial Skate Park Annual Event featuring the "Jessica Prouty Band";
  • Saturday, Aug. 24, 7:30 p.m., Gilmour's Breakfast, Pink Floyd Tribute. $10 at the gate.
4. Richard B. Primack, professor of Biology at Boston University, will speak about his research on the impact of climate change on the flowering and leafing out times of plants, the spring arrival of birds, the flight times of insects and the potential for ecological mismatches among species caused by climate change.

This will be the first lecture in the Shirley Towle Lecture Series hosted by the Acton Garden Club, at the Acton Town Hall, 472 Main St., Acton, Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m.

The lecture will take place in Room 204 at Town Hall, also known as the Faulkner Room.

Light refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. The event is free to the public.

5. Forecast:

Tuesday: Sun & clouds, warm & somewhat humid. Warmer with highs from 83-87.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny and hot with highs from 85-90. Humidity up a bit, but not oppressive.

Thursday: Sunny skies & more humid. Highs in the lower 90s. Late day t-storm possible.
