The new station, the first to be built in the town since 1961, contains equipment to keep first responders safe and healthy. It features a new decontamination washer, washer extractor, and drying cabinet, all of which function to clean gear of toxins and pollutants that can be harmful to first responders' overall health and wellness.

The station was also designed to be energy efficient, using geothermal heating and cooling and solar energy to decrease energy needs and reduce the cost to taxpayers.

The grand opening ceremony will take place on Friday, June 10 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the North Acton Fire Station, on 68 Harris St.
