Andover Legion Post Hosting Military And Veteran Appreciation Day

Current military and veterans are invited for free food and beer. The public is asked to come and show their appreciation for the guests.

ANDOVER, MA — Andover American Legion Post 8 and Run for the Troops are sponsoring the inaugural Military and Veteran Appreciation Day later this month.

At noon on May 21, current military and veterans are invited to Oak & Iron Brewing Company, 18 Red Spring Rd. in Andover. Free food and beer will be provided to the guests.

At 1 p.m., the general public is invited to the location for a chance to interact with the military and veterans.

"We hope the veterans stay around and the general public can get to know what we're about and what these veterans have done for our country," Tom Rando, a Navy veteran and the co-chair of the American Legion Post 8 Fundraising Committee, told Patch.

At the event, members of the public will be able to make donations, and those holding "donation tickets" will have a chance to walk away with one of two items: a Patriot Quilt made by the Robb Center Quilting Group and a wooden American flag.

Proceeds will go to American Legion, which funds programs for students like Boys State and Girls State, where high school students are educated about government, the Oratorical Contest, and American Legion Baseball.

The Run for the Troops, which is a co-sponsor of the event, will hold its annual 5K run/walk, on Nov. 12 in Andover.
