ANDOVER, MA — Andover Public Schools was selected as one of the recipients of the U.S. EPA’s 2023 Clean School Bus Program. The rebates from the program will help the school and its transportation vendor, NRT Bus, purchase 25 new electric school buses for the district’s fleet, according to a statement.

The district secured the award through a grant application and will begin the process of purchasing the vehicles with NRT.

“The addition of these new buses is great news for the district,” Superintendent Magda Parvey, said in a statement. “In 2022, the district made a commitment to providing sustainable transportation to our students and I am thrilled we can add to our fleet. Once these buses are in service, 75% of our buses will support a clean and healthy environment for Andover.”

The new additions will complement the five all-electric buses the district placed into service in 2022. Electric buses are powered by fast chargers that will provide the district "with clean, quiet, and environmentally conscious transport for students," according to the statement.

“We would like to thank NRT for their efforts on behalf of our district to reduce emissions created from a traditional school bus,” Keith Taverna, assistant superintendent of district Finance and Administration, said in a statement. “We are also appreciative of the EPA’s program to support Andover in its efforts to improve air quality in and around our schools.”
