Business analyst Oscar Camargo says he is running for the Essex 18th state representative seat

Andover resident Oscar Camargo, who ran for state representative in 2014, is going to take another shot at it.
The 32-year-old says he will run for the Essex 18th seat, currently held by Republican State Rep. Jim Lyons.
Camargo, a 15-year veteran in the armed forces, plans to make his announcement after the Veterans Day parade in North Andover on Wednesday.

“As a veteran, I have proven my dedication to public service,” Camargo said in a statement. “As an active volunteer, I have proven my willingness to invest in our community’s future. As a believer, I stand firm in the idea that our future is not a matter of chance -- it’s a matter of choice.”
Camargo, who says he is socially progressive and fiscally conservative, is an analyst for Triquetra Technologies. He graduated from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and served in the Army for 15 years, where he was deployed to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Camargo ran in the Democratic primary for the 14th Essex seat, but lost to incumbent State Rep. Diana DiZoglio.
He believes his message will resonate this time with the 18th Essex.
“I’m running because I believe our community can do better and deserves leadership that it can depend on,” Camargo said. When elected, I’m ready to work with legislators on both sides of the aisle to protect our community’s interests and ensure our voice is respected once again in the Statehouse.”
