The storm left many of the district's schools without power.
The district released the following statement:
Dear Andover Public School Families and Staff,
The damage from the storm on Friday, September 8, 2023 has left the Andover community with extensive power outages and debris on roads and sidewalks. This afternoon, after collaborating with the Town Emergency Management Working Group (EMWG) it has been decided that schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, September 11, 2023. Many of the district’s schools are currently without power with an unclear timeline for restoration. Several National Grid vehicles are causing road closures or blockages which will make traveling for buses and families unsafe and sidewalk cleanup remains ongoing. These blockages have also prevented public works crews access to clean up roads and sidewalks. The Town will have cooling and charging stations available to families at the Robb Senior Center from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. today and at the Memorial Hall Library from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023.
We will continue to monitor restoration efforts and provide information as it becomes available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
The rough weather isn't expected to let up either. A flood watch was issued for much of eastern Massachusetts on Monday, with another round of strong storms expected.
