Whether it's hypnosis or a lobster bake, there has to be something that interests you at the Senior Center this month. This listing was compiled by Senior Center program director Karen Payne-Taylor.

Andover Senior Center (ASC), 30 Whittier Court, Andover. Hours 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pre-registration required for all events.  Open to entire community, pending space. Call for information: 978-623-8321. Or visit www.andoverseniorcenter.org.
 

  • Grill Nights are back! Wednesdays, July 6, 20 and Aug. 3 and 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Meals starting at $5 (last seating at 6:30). Call for menu and to buy tickets. 
  • Haiku Here and Now: Wednesday, July 13, 20, 27 and Aug. 3 at 1:30 p.m. Series cost: $20. Writing haiku takes us more deeply into the present moment, using our senses to increase our awareness of nature and human nature. Learn haiku essentials, try some supported writing and take a Renga walk, which is a quiet walk outdoors, to stimulate our writing. New, old, famous and not so famous haiku poems will also be presented for us to review together. Jeannie Martin Instructor and poet.
  • Hypnosis Demystified: Friday, July 15, 9:30 a.m. Free, Separate the facts from the myths.  Group hypnosis session is included. Find out why people think it’s better than a spa! Learn the alternative to Gastric Band operation. Hypnosis takes place only in the mind and can get better results than a medical solution without the risks. Presented by Don Glass, Certified Hypnotherapist.
  • Lobster Bake:  Saturday, July 16 at 6 p.m. Lobster $18/Chicken$15. Advance tickets only;  Our dinner menu will consist of your choice of lobster or chicken along with steamers, corn on the cob, watermelon, dessert & beverages.  Tickets will go on sale for Andover residents beginning on Monday June 27 and for non-residents on Monday, July 11. Mark your calendars and save the date for our most popular summer event! 
  • Simple Summer Pleasures: Tuesday, July 19 at 2:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 2:30pm in our lovely Four Seasons Room or patio. Free. Summer’s best desserts will be served. Both events are free and sponsored by Right at Home – In Home Care and Assistance.
  • Men’s Outdoor Adventures: Pole Hill: Wednesday, July 20 at 9:30 am. Free. In the early 1900’s, Pole Hill in the Ballardvale section of Andover was the place to be in summer with a picnic area and a dance hall. Jane Cairns of the Andover Historical Society will tell us the history.  Hear about what closed the dance hall for good.  1.5 miles with some hills. Meet at the Center.
  • Women’s Outdoor Adventures: Appleton Farms in Ipswich. Thursday, July 21.  8:45 a.m. - 3 p.m.   $3 admission. Easy walk through old farm and homestead, lovely rural setting.  Bring a bag lunch. Bug spray, water, sun hat and good sturdy walking shoes. Meet at the Center to carpool. 
  • Lawrence General Hospital: Friday, July 22 at 9:30 a.m. Free. Something new is right down the road. Learn about the changes and updates to many departments.
  • Andover at 365 Years: Friday, July 29, 10 a.m. $5. This year marks the 365 anniversary of Andover’s incorporation as a town. Join local historian and Northern Essex professor Richard Padova as he journeys through the development of Andover from its agricultural days to today’s bustling, modern suburb.
  • Health and Wellness summer term runs until Aug. 19. Aerobics, strength training and balance exercises, gentle & intermediate yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, Zumba and tap dancing. All levels, from seated to strenuous are offered. Classes may be audited before signing up. Half classes available. Come Get Fit!
