ANDOVER, MA — Andover High School senior Eddie Mukalazi will join U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and U.S. Sen. Edward Markey in representing Massachusetts during the 62nd annual United States Senate Youth Program Washington Week held in March.

He was one of two Massachusetts student leaders selected to be part of the 104 national student delegation. He will join Juliana Lee of Duxbury. Each delegate will also receive a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate study.

The intensive, week-long program is designed to "instill student-delegates with an in-depth knowledge of the American political process and a life-long commitment to public service," according to a statement.

To be selected, students needed to rank academically among the top 1 percent in their respective states among high school juniors and seniors. They were also evaluated for outstanding leadership skills and a strong commitment to volunteer work.

"Eddie is very active in the Andover community, and serves as the president of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Advisory Council," according to a school district statement. "He is also a delegate on the State Student Advisory Council to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), representing AHS and the region. As a student representative on the Andover D.I.V.E.R.S.E. Commission, Eddie also founded an annual DEI Youth Town Forum in partnership with State Representative Tram Nguyen. Through this series, he helped introduced anti-racism concepts to students, community members, and the Andover Police Department."
