Bottomless Dumplings & Pierogi Day Serves Up Community and Celebration
Andover, Brighton and Beverly Residents Raise Over $1,500 for Project Bread's Walk for Hunger

ANDOVER, BRIGHTON, BEVERLY, Mass. – What do you get when you mix dumplings, pierogi, and a powerful mission to end hunger? A full house, full hearts—and more than $1,500 raised for Project Bread’s annual Walk for Hunger. Hosted by Brighton resident Irene Shiang Li, Andover resident Casey White and Beverly resident Vanessa White, co-captains of the Walk for Hunger team Dumplings of the World, the Bottomless Dumplings & Pierogi Day brought together dozens of supporters from across Greater Boston for a delicious birthday celebration that doubled as a fundraiser for a cause close to their hearts.
The event, held in honor of Li’s birthday, was anything but ordinary. With endless handmade dumplings and pierogi on the menu—representing the culinary talents of Mei Mei Dumplings and Jaju Pierogi—the gathering was a joyful, food-filled rallying cry against hunger in Massachusetts. By the end of the day, the team had grown from 21 to 63 walkers, registering 42 new participants for the Walk, and taking a huge step toward their $5,000 fundraising goal.
“Gathering is so important during this challenging time,” said Li. “At Mei Mei, we’re in the business of selling food, but we believe that no one in Massachusetts should go hungry because they can’t afford groceries. I participated in the Walk as a kid, and now, being on Project Bread’s Board of Directors and walking with my community makes it all come full circle. We’re fired up and ready to walk together to help make hunger history.”
Co-host Casey White of Andover, and co-founder of Jaju Pierogi, echoed that passion: “Helping those in need is a huge motivator for me. When we walk, we raise not just money—but awareness. We’re amplifying the voices of families who experience food insecurity every day. And that gets me fired up.”
Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger, now in its 57th year, returns on Sunday, May 4, with a 3-mile route around Boston Common. More than 3,500 walkers are expected to participate, joining forces in support of statewide food access and hunger relief efforts.
“Food is essential to survival, and I believe no one should go without it—regardless of race or socioeconomic status,” says White. “I’m proud to support Project Bread and to walk with a team that believes in nourishing our communities every single day.”
