Kayaker Rescued From Merrimack River

The man was rescued from the Andover side of the river by firefighters who were at the right place at the right time.

A kayaker is in the hospital after being rescued early Wednesday afternoon from the Andover side of the Merrimack River.

A 50-year-old Lawrence man was rescued around 12:30 p.m. by Lawrence firefighters after falling out of his kayak. The firefighters happened to be on scene conducting water training, a release from an Andover Police spokesman said.

The man was given CPR and transported to Lawrence General Hospital. He was later transported to a Boston hospital, the release said.

Andover and State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office told Patch the man was treated at Lawrence General Hospital for unknown injuries.

The Methuen Police tweeted that a deceased kayaker was found. Police later appeared to attempt to tweet the kayaker was not dead.
