Firefighters Take Down Blaze on Third-Floor

The Andover Fire Department extinguished a fire at New England Business Center Park later Wednesday night.

Andover Fire crews responded to a building fire later last night and put it out in minimal time thanks to sprinklers in the building. However, this is one of two recent incidents that fire investigators believe were caused by the misuse of extension cords.

At roughly 10:23 p.m. Wednesday night, fire crews responded to a call at New England Business Center Park to extinguish a reported blaze on the third floor of an office building, according to Andover Fire Chief Michael Mansfield.

Firefighters had the third-floor fire knocked down in about 16 minutes, Mansfield said, with the help of a sprinkler system that quelled the fire before engines arrived.

Mansfield said that the fire occurred on the left side of the New England Business Park office building.

Fire investigators say that the fire was caused by an extension cord being used improperly in the building.

“The fire was electrical in nature,” said Mansfield. “[It was caused by] extension cords being utilized as permanent wiring.”

The chief said that there is most likely smoke and fire damage as a result of the blaze.
