Patriots' Stefon Diggs Has Court Date Postponed: Report

The arraignment was originally scheduled for Jan. 23.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — New England Patriots’ star Stefon Diggs, who is facing assault and strangulation charges, has had his court arraignment date postponed until after the conclusion of the NFL playoffs, according to a report from NBC 10 Boston.

The wide receiver’s arraignment is now scheduled for Friday, Feb. 13, at 9 a.m. in Dedham District Court. The original date was Friday, Jan. 23, two days before the AFC Championship game. Prosecutors reportedly had no objections to the rescheduling.

Diggs has officially been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation along with misdemeanor assault and battery, stemming from an occurrence on Tuesday, Dec. 2, one day after the Patriots defeated the New York Giants in a primetime matchup.

The accuser made the report with Dedham Police on Dec. 16 accusing Diggs of slapping her across the face and eventually strangling her with the crook of his elbow. The woman worked as a chef for Diggs and the two got into a dispute over payment.

Diggs has denied the allegations multiple times through statements by his attorneys and the Patriots.

The NFL is not expected to put Diggs on the Commissioner’s Exempt List until at least after his arraignment. Defensive Tackle Christian Barmore is facing a misdemeanor domestic assault charge, and his arraignment remains scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3.

"It's a very emotional time, taken back by some things that have been going on," Diggs said in his first press conference after the allegations were made public. "It's an open case so I can't even say anything about it."

Diggs was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Maryland by the Minnesota Vikings. He has put together a borderline-hall-of-fame career throughout the last decade playing for four organizations. In his first season with the Patriots, he had more than 1,000 receiving yards. The Maryland native is a father of six. His most recent child, whom he shares with girlfriend and rapper Cardi B, was born in November.
