Friends of Andover Tennis Raising Funds for Courts

The Friends of Andover Tennis hope to renovate the Andover High School tennis courts through fundraising and a rally on Oct. 1.

This press release was provided by the Friends of Andover Tennis.

The Friends of Andover Tennis is a private group of tennis enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels: community activists and leaders, business leaders, parents of past and present (and future) AHS tennis players, and current AHS students, players and coaches.

Our goal is a tennis facility that our high school teams and the Andover tennis playing community can enjoy and be proud of. The existing high school courts were built 22 years ago. We are raising funds to resurface and reconfigure the AHS tennis courts, improve their leveling, remove hazardous cracks and berms, and fill in unpaved areas between the edge of the asphalt area and the fence.

The renovated area with new netposts and nets will include a comfortable amount of space between the six doubles courts plus one singles court, a periphery accommodating team members and spectators, and QuickStart lines for summertime youth tennis instruction.

Our fundraising target is $200,000. Our construction target is the summer of 2013.

  • Contrary to earlier reports and a letter to the editor (Lawrence Eagle Tribune 2/21, Andover Townsman 3/3/11, 3/10/11, 4/7/11), our project incurs no cost toward a preliminary study: This is because the project will use the existing footprint and foundation. Funds that are raised will cover materials and labor.

We are a donor advised fund with the 501 (c) 3 Essex County Community Foundation (www.eccf.org), which receives tax deductible donations on our behalf.
