Join the Foriegn Language Task Force

The Andover Public Schools are looking for dedicated stakeholders in the school community that would like to join a task force to improve the foreign language program at APS.

This was provided by the Superintendent of Schools Marinel McGrath.

Andover Public School District invites teachers, parents, community members, and business leaders to participate in a Task Force that will investigate the importance of and the role languages play in preparing students to function in a global society. The charge for the task force is to consider

  • What should a K-12 foreign language provide for APS students?
  • What offerings will prepare students to be “self-reliant, responsible citizens who are thinkers, problem solvers, and contributors prepared to participate in an evolving global society”?

The Task Force Members will study the K-12 programming models and trends in K-12 foreign language teaching and learning. They will develop goals and strategies for a K-12 Foreign Language Program for inclusion in the APS Strategic Plan. In addition, the Task Force will produce a set of recommendations relative to what one language should be taught at the elementary level, what two languages should be taught at the middle school level, and what languages should be taught at the high school level.
