Updated: Lawrence Woman Arraigned in Double Fatal Accident

Fernandez was arraigned Monday morning at Lawrence District Court. On Saturday morning at roughly 7 a.m., police responded to a report of a two-car accident on Interstate 93 northbound. Two men died from their injuries in the accident.
Fernandez pleaded not guilty to two charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of alcohol and operating negligently. A July 14 pre-trial date was set.

Police say that Fernandez was allegedly driving her 2002 Acura at a high rate of speed on I-93 northbound when she hit the Chevy Blazer occupied by the three men. After hitting the Blazer, she allegedly swerved onto the median and then back into the northbound lane, hitting the Blazer again.
Driver and Saugus man Francis O'Hanely, Jr., 62,was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, but died upon arrival. Passenger Joseph A. Coppola, 57 of Malden, was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries and died later that night in the hospital due to his injuries.

Ambulances also brought passenger Timothy O’Hanely to Lawrence General Hospital with serious injuries.
Fernandez was not injured in the accident.
At Lawrence District Court Monday, families for both Fernandez and the victims were present in the courtroom.
Prosecutor Colleen Cashman reported that Fernandez had a blood alcohol level of .145 at the scene of the accident and then .13 and .12 at the police station.
While Fernandez's attorney was arguing that Fernandez did not cause the accident, bail was kept at $50,000.
