Legislators Demand Action On Dangerous Road In Andover

There has been "a troubling pattern of fatal and severe crashes along this stretch," according to the group.

ANDOVER, MA — A group of area legislators are "deeply concerned" about safety on Route 125 in Andover following several serious crashes.

The group has written a letter to MassDOT Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt urging the agency to take action.

The letter is signed by Sen. Barry Finegold and Reps. Frank A. Moran, Tram T. Nguyen, and Adrienne P. Ramos.

The letter cites the following incidents on Route 125:

  • A fatal crash at its intersection with Vine Street on Oct. 4
  • Two seniors killed in an Aug. 2012 accident
  • An SUV rear-ending a tractor-trailer at a red light in January 2017, leading to a fatality
  • A pedestrian killed on the road's North Andover stretch in December 2020

"These incidents, among others in the corridor, reflect a troubling pattern of fatal and severe crashes along this stretch," the letter reads. "Given the frequency and severity of accidents we respectfully and urgently request that MassDOT give attention to this matter. We request the most updated crash data, including fatal and nonfatal accidents and request a meeting to discuss and formulate a plan to improve safety including potentially adding a light at the intersection of Wildwood Road and Route 125."
