Motorist Warned for Texting While Driving

The police logs for Tuesday, May 2, contained one arrest and several small incidents.

The following are excerpts from the Andover Police log. The log is open to the public.

At 7:23 a.m. a caller reported a car that crashed into a tree on Shattuck Road. Injuries were unknown at the time. Police issued a citation for driving without a license.

At 7:52 a.m. a caller reported that a tractor trailer unit hit a traffic light post and a street sign on Greenwood Road and then drove away. The lights were still functioning but there were exposed wires. The public works and town electrician were notified.

At 12:18 p.m. a caller reported that a duck was killed on the road and her ducklings are wandering around on Lowell Street. An officer reported that the duck died and that the ducklings were able to cross the road.

At 2:32 p.m. police arrested Valerie J. Charest, 22, of 14 B Kendall Pond Road, Derry, N.H., on Brechin Terrace. Charest was charged with assault and battery on a household member and disorderly conduct.

At 6:59 p.m. police stopped a motor vehicle on Gould Road after observing the occupant text messaging while driving. The officer gave the operator a written warning for texting while driving.
