Updated: Power Outages Reach 2,400 in Andover

Despite a Hurricane Irene that proved to be less than the hype, over 2,400 homes in Andover are still without power.

From the morning to early afternoon yesterday, power outages in Andover had gone from less than 400 to 1,296. National Grid said there is a total of 13,437 power customers in Andover.

By Monday afternoon, almost 18 percent of home in Andover, or 2,415, were without power. 

A call to National Grid for comment was not returned immediately. 

National Grid has been servicing power outages in communities throughout the northeast yesterday and has been slower than usual to respond. They are currently assessing the conditions in Andover and are in the process of determining how long it will take to restore power to residents in Andover. They currently do not have a time estimate on the restoration of power to customers in Andover.

No injuries have resulted due to power outages, or the hurricane in general, in Andover, according to police.

Also, police said no shelters were set up in Andover for those that last power and added that the station did not receive any requests for shelters.
