EXHIBITIONS ON VIEW THROUGH JULY 31:
A Long Arc: Photography and the American South since 1845, organized by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, presents over 200 works that examine the South’s place in the history of photography, and reveals the region’s critical impact on the evolution of the medium.
Robert Frank and Todd Webb: Across America, 1955, organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, brings together the photographs that Robert Frank and Todd Webb created separately during their 1955 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowships, supporting cross-country surveys. Juxtaposing both projects for the first time, this exhibition reveals the impossibility of capturing a singular vision of “America.”
Laying the Foundation: Exploring the Nucleus of the Addison’s Collection explores the eclectic mix of works that comprise the Addison’s founding collection, which reflects not just the prevailing tastes of the era, but also the specific identities and predilections of those who contributed to its creation.
Finding American Form: 20th-Century Selections from the Permanent Collection examines how American artists in the 20th century mined the space between representation and abstraction, taking inspiration from European and African art, as well as their own urban environments and the natural world.
