Temple Emanuel Of Andover Hosting Events For Chanukah
The temple will host a lantern walk, latke-making workshop, service for young children, community celebration, and a 6th night dinner.
ANDOVER, MA — Chanukah takes place this year from Dec. 18-26, and Temple Emanuel of Andover will be celebrating the Festival of Lights with several events, the first one is scheduled for this weekend.
Temple Emanuel, located at 7 Haggetts Pond Rd. will be hosting these events:
- PJ Library Chanukah Story Lantern Walk: 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Sunny Meadow Farm in Chelmsford, located on Robin Hill Rd. — At the event, families can enjoy the story walk while surrounded by twinkling lights. The event is free and everyone is welcome. Registration is available online.
- Virtual: PJ Library Latke-Making Workshop with Mamaleh's Deli: 3 p.m. on Dec. 11. — An interactive cooking class for families of all ages. Temple Emanuel's Rabbi Max Chaiken will be telling a story during the program. Participants can purchase an ingredient kit from Mamaleh's, which includes latke mix ready to fry, sour cream, applesauce, and printed recipes. The kit can be picked up at the temple on Dec. 8. The event is free and registration is available online.
- Chanukah Tot Shabbat with PJ Library: 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 at Temple Emanuel — Rabbi Chaiken and Cantor Rachel Reef-Simpson will conduct a special Chanukah-themed service that includes music, movement and storytelling. The service is geared toward children in 1st Grade or younger. Those who plan to attend can RSVP online.
- Community Chanukah Celebration: 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 18 at Temple Emanuel — A family-friendly service that will be followed by activities and crafts, including: Chanukah candle making, a latke bar, Ted the DJ, sufganiyot-making station, scavenger hunt, pin the candle on the Channukiah, and more. Those who plan to attend can RSVP online.
- Erev Christmas Eve Chinese Shabbat Dinner: Dec. 23 following the festive Shabbat Service, which features the house band. — Enjoy Erev Christmas Eve with friends and family while enjoying a Chinese food dinner. The event also will include the lighting of the Chanukah candles for the sixth night. The dinner costs $18 for adults and $9 for children. Those who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by Dec. 21.
