Ten Things That Say Andover

Here are ten things that embody the town of Andover.

Every community has its landmarks, sources of pride and oddities. Here’s a look at our top 10 things that are as Andover as the Warriors. In fact, that’s number one:

  1. Warriors: Year after year, dozens of exceptional Andover athletes make the Warriors' name something to be feared in the Merrimack Valley conference. Be it basketball, volleyball, field hockey or lacrosse, the Warriors are equivalent to athletic excellence...and, of course, Andover.
  2. : That's all it is; the Park. You say that and people will recognize the beautiful green in the center of Andover near the town offices, Doherty School and Senior Center. The area is complete with a gazebo, pathways and even a small bridge over a brook that no longer exists.
  3. : Getting away to the beach can be a hassle. However, Andover residents have the joy of Pomps Pond. The recreational area has everything you need; a beach, picnic areas, trails, canoes, kayaks and more.
  4. : Well, Andover is in the name of this one...so that's not a bad start. Phillips Academy is not only an "Ivy League" prep school and the high school of the Bush boys, but it's home of the beloved Addison Gallery, a chapel, hiking trails and more.
  5. : This is isn't exactly a location but this event is one that screams Andover. Many native Andoverites that take their kids to Clown Town nowadays went to Clown Town themselves as children.
  6. : Everoyone knows this little spot in the heart of downtown Andover to get all your little gifts. Even if you're not from Andover, this little shop is most likely known to you.
  7. : This is another spot known to residents of surrounding towns. The Andover Library has been a staple for scholars and students in the Merrimack Valley due to its four floors packed with library goodness.
  8. : The Franciscan Center will take up your entire view when standing in front of it. The massive building is the spot that many have used for secular retreats as well as religious functions.
  9. Harold Parker Forest: This massive forest offers hundreds of acres to explore on bike, foot or even canoe. And Andover has it.
  10. : Everybody has had this well-known pizza and it is a staple in the Ballardvale section of Andover. Also, it says Andover.
