Tools Stolen from IRS Construction Site

Police are assisting the IRS with an internal investigation into the theft on the piece of federal property.

Police and security personnel are investigating the possible theft of tools and other equipment from the construction site at the IRS building on Lowell Street Tuesday night.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, IRS security guards notified police about a possible theft in progress at the construction site abutting the building.

Two male subjects were seen stealing one of the pickup trucks on the site and possibly stealing tools as well. One security guard followed the truck across the street in the Boston Sports Club parking lot, where he found the pickup truck with the subjects already gone. Police are not sure whether the thieves fled on foot or in a vehicle.

IRS security did find a hole that was cut into a fence in the rear section of the IRS property, which may have provided access for the theives.
