VIDEO: Motorcyclist Hospitalized after Collision on North Main

Police were forced to close down the northbound lane of Route 28 near Shawsheen Plaza for nearly two hours after motorcyclist collided with another vehicle.

Traffic was backed up as far as a mile from Andover center due to a motor vehicle collision in front of Shawsheen Plaza at roughly 3:30 p.m. today.

A motorcyclist was sent to Lawrence General Hospital with injuries after he collided with the back end of a sedan on North Main Street. Police were unsure of the seriousness of his injuries but said he was alert and conscious immediately following the accident.

The accident caused police to re-route northbound traffic on North Main Street at the intersection of Harding Street for nearly two hours. As a chain reaction, traffic backups were seen on Main Street, South Main Street, Elm Street, Harding Street, Stevens Street, Shawsheen Street, North Main Street and Lowell Street.

Police also said that the passenger in the sedan was also transported to the hospital with injuries.
