13 Arlington Organizations Receive Community Development Block Grants

Thirteen applicants were selected to receive a total of $1,090,804 in grants for 17 projects.

ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington's Department of Planning and Community Development has announced the recipients of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for Program Year 48, which began on July 1, 2022 and will end on June 30, 2023.

Thirteen applicants were selected to receive a total of $1,090,804 in grants for 17 projects in the areas of Affordable Housing, Public Services, Parks, Public Facilities, & Infrastructure, and Planning and Administration.

The CDBG Subcommittee of the Arlington Select Board reviewed all of the CDBG applications that were received and made these funding recommendations, which were endorsed at Annual Town Meeting on May 23, 2022:

Affordable Housing

  • Caritas Communities will receive $110,000;
  • Arlington Housing Authority will receive $250,000;

Public Services

  • Arlington Boys and Girls Club will receive $22,000
  • Operation Success Learning Center will receive $2,500
  • Arlington Youth Counseling Center will receive $15,000
  • Arlington Council on Aging will receive $98,922
  • Fidelity House will receive $23,000
  • Arlington Recreation will receive $8,000

Parks, Public Facilities, & Infrastructure

  • The Arlington Disability Commission and Department of Public Works will receive $122,852
  • Food Link will receive $73,000
  • The Facilities Department and the Department of Public Works will receive $148,500

Planning and Administration

  • The Envision Arlington Standing Committee will receive $2,000
  • The Department of Planning and Community Development will receive $215,030

The CDBG Program was created in 1974 as part of Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and is administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

CDBG provides annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities, and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities for low- to moderate-income residents.
