Brookline Promotes 2 Of Its Most Decorated Officers
Both officers have 27 years of service to the department so far.
BROOKLINE, MA — Community members gathered at police headquarters on 350 Washington St. for two swearing ceremonies, one of which made Brookline police history.
Deputy Superintendent Paul Campbell was promoted to Superintendent, while Lieutenant Casey Hatchett was promoted to Deputy Superintendent.
With her promotion, Hatchett became the first woman in the history of the department to achieve that rank, according to Chief Jennifer Paster. Hatchett will now oversee Brookline’s entire patrol division in her new role.

Town Clerk Ben Kaufman swore the pair into their new leadership roles after words from Select Board member Paul Warren.
Campbell has 27 years of service with Brookline police. His first leadership opportunity came in 2009, when he was promoted to Lieutenant of the third platoon in the patrol division. He was quickly promoted again in 2011 as a Detective Lieutenant in the Office of Professional Responsibility, where he lasted for a decade. He then became District Court Prosecutor until he became Deputy Superintendent in November 2022. Paster said Campbell’s law expertise has had an impact not only on his own success but that of the department as well.

“He’s been a member of the Massachusetts BAR since 1994, bringing a level of legal expertise which is rare among police executives,” Paster said. “Paul’s legal expertise and meticulous organizational skills strengthened the department’s effectiveness even more.”
Campbell graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and later earned a Juris Doctor from Boston College.
Hatchett also has 27 years of experience with the department, starting her career as a member of the patrol division in 1998. She became the department’s first crime analyst in 2002, being a trailblazer for the department as they transitioned into the digital era. She first became a Sergeant in 2018 and during that time helped coordinate police presence at events such as the Boston Marathon. She became a Lieutenant four years later.
“Lieutenant Hatchett’s extensive supervisory record, command experience, executive level education, and deep engagement with Brookline make her exceptionally well-qualified for the role of Deputy Superintendent,” Paster said.
Hatchett graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s degree in political science, and later earned her Master’s degree in criminal justice from Western New England University.
