ARLINGTON, MA — The police department celebrated the retirement of a dispatcher after nearly 40 years of service to the town.

Phil Fumicello joined the Department of Public Works in 1988. After a decade of leadership there, he became a 911 dispatcher. He would go on to assist and calm locals in distress for the next 27 years. According to the department, Fumicello was known for his calm demeanor and professionalism he brought to his work.

“As you begin this new chapter, Phil, we hope you find joy and fulfillment in everything ahead, whether it’s traveling, diving into hobbies, or simply enjoying some well-earned relaxation,” the department said in a statement. “You have more than earned every moment of happiness that retirement brings.”
