Arlington Police Add An Electronic Bicycle To Their Vehicle Roster

Its size and maneuverability make the "eBike" more agile than a patrol car.

It’s not quite a motorcycle, and it’s not quite a bicycle - it’s an electric bicycle, and now the Arlington Police Department has one on hand for its patrolling purposes.

“This new Polaris eBike is a great addition to our already established bike fleet,” said Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan in a statement.

“Partially powered by a small motor, the design allows officers to effectively patrol the community, especially the heavily traveled Minuteman Commuter Bikeway, and reach destinations not accessible by cruiser.”

The statement also notes that the electric bike, powered by a 750 watt motor, can travel up to 20 miles per hour.
