Con Artist Almost Gets Away with $1800 In This Arlington Crime Log

The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department.

Wednesday, May 27

  • Identity Fraud, 8:38 a.m., Park Avenue Extension

A reporting party told police that two charges - one for $453 to Western Union, and another for $1418 to Liberty Mutual Insurance - that she never made showed up on her bank statement that morning. Naturally, she called the debit card company to cancel both the charges and her card.

  • Truck knocks over allegedly low-hanging electrical wire, Longmeadow Road, 6:11 p.m.

A reporting party told police that at approximately 4:50 p.m., a moving truck assigned to pick up a glass table from her home knocked over an electrical wire. The truck’s driver said it was hanging too low for him to avoid. This caused the resident’s electricity to go out, and the live electrical wire was left active in the road. Eversource and Arlington Fire resolved the situation.

  • iPad Stolen From Apartment, 6:18 p.m.. Brooks Avenue

An iPad was allegedly lifted from an Arlington living room. The suspicion is that the thief gained access to the home through an open window, or through the front door, which was unlocked.

  • Car Accident Sans Injuries, 6:37 p.m., Chestnut Street

A car stopped for a pedestrian crossing the road, and was struck from behind by a different vehicle that was unable to stop in time.
