Crime Log: Cat and Squirrel Accientally Bring About Destruction of Fire Hydrant

The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department.

Police Log, Tuesday, April 21

  • Suspicious Event, Beverly Road, 3:37 p.m.

Two individuals explained to officers that their son had been in New York City on a trip with his friend, and left to return to Alewife at about 11 p.m. that day. Before his departure, the son had been sent a series of threatening text messages from his friend’s mother regarding her child’s whereabouts.

Police called the source of the text messages, the friend’s mother, who told them that it was her boyfriend who had sent the scary texts, and they were both concerned when her child had not gotten back home when expected.

  • Robbery, Park Avenue, 5:59 p.m.

A woman reported a handful of rings had vanished from her home. She did not call the police immediately upon noticing them missing, assuming she had misplaced them herself. But having looked all over her home to no avail, she believes workers she hired to fix her heating system while she was at work may have made off with the belongings.

  • Crash Destroys Mystic Street Fire Hydrant, 6:24 p.m.

A driver attempting to avoid running over a cat chasing a squirrel on Mystic Avenue swerved and slammed into a fire hydrant. Police arrived to discover the driver complaining of right arm pain. They also observed the annihilated fire hydrant and car. The police record does not specify whether or not the squirrel or the cat made it out okay.
