Crime Log: Unknown Numbers Text 'I Like Those Big Windows In Your House'

The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department.

Police Log, Monday, April 20

  • Shoplifting at Walgreens/324 Mass. Ave., 10:06 a.m.

A Walgreens employee informed police that the previous day, a man returned $105.98 worth of merchandise supposedly bought from the establishment. He was therefore issued a store credit card of equal value, despite his lack of any receipts.

Suspicious, the Walgreens employee later checked on surveillance footage, which showed a woman pocketing items and leaving the store without paying at 2:58 p.m. that day, a bit before her apparent accomplice returned the same merchandise for store credit.

Police do not specify - or simply are not sure themselves - why it makes sense to steal from Walgreens, in order to exchange the stolen items for store credit for more items at Walgreens.

  • Annoying Phone calls, Spy Pond Parkway, 2:15 p.m.

A woman told police she has been receiving cryptic text messages throughout the last few months. These included: “Nice house,” “You might want to see this. Yes. No?” and “I like those big windows in your house.”

Noting that the woman lived with her teenage daughter, police assumed these were pranks by juveniles, and advised her to change her number.
