Michael Mason Named Arlington's New Deputy Town Manager

ARLINGTON, MA — Michael Mason, Chief Financial Officer for the Arlington School Department, has been named the town's new Deputy Town Manager/Finance Director, said Town Manager Sandy Pooler.

In his new role, Mason will oversee the town’s financial departments, including the Assessor, Comptroller, and Treasurer/Collector, the Information Technology Department.

Mason and the Human Resources Director, Caryn Malloy, will head the town’s collective bargaining efforts. He will also work with the Town’s Budget Director, Julie Wayman, to produce the annual town budget and annual capital plan.

“I am excited to have Michael join the Town Manager’s Office,” Pooler said in a statement. “In the time I have worked with him, I have seen his strong financial abilities and his excellent judgment.”

Mason previously worked as the Business Manager for the Chelsea Public Schools. He holds a B.S. from Salem State University in Business Administration and will be pursuing his Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University starting this fall. Mason will transition from the School Department to the Town Manager’s Office in November.
