More Logan Airport Aircraft Noise for Arlington?
Airplanes heading away from Logan Airport in Boston could bring more noise to Arlington residents.

Several thousand more Arlington residents would be subjected to the noise of aircrafts flying overhead under a proposed plan to alter departing routes for planes heading from Boston's Logan Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration’s proposal would essentially change air routes for one runway (33L) to a satellite-guided system that would subject 4,079 additional Arlington residents to aircraft noise, according to a copy of the proposal.
In addition to Arlington, 6,584 more Waltham residents and 5,809 more in Winchester would be impacted by the proposal. About 2,604 Belmont residents and 1,511 Watertown residents would also fall under the new route proposal. In Newton, 483 fewer residents would hear aircraft noise.

The increase levels, however, do not meet the requirement to be considered in the final decision.
“The proposed procedure would improve safety and efficiency at Logan Airport and has been designed as close as possible as an overlay to the current conventional flight departure procedure for Runway 33L,” FAA spokesman Jim Peters told the told the State House News Service.

Final plans are expected to go into affect on March 7. By 2015, 80 percent of Logan’s aircraft fleet would be using the new guidance system, according to the according to the State House News Service.
The FAA is accepting public comments through Feb. 15.
