Spike In Arlington Cases Attributed To 'Informal Gatherings'
"COVID-19 doesn't take a holiday," Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine said as the town went from low to moderate risk ahead of the holidays.
ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington went from low to moderate risk in the state's latest community-level data map Thursday. The town was designated a "yellow" community for the first time, after spending weeks safely in the "green" range.
Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine attributed the change to "informal gatherings" causing a spike in cases.
"As the cooler weather drives us indoors and the holiday season rapidly approaches, the tradition to gather with friends and family is strong," Chapdelaine said in a statement Friday. "No one wants to spread the virus to loved ones, but COVID-19 doesn’t take a holiday. In fact, the virus thrives in situations we most desire, being with each other."

Chapdelaine recommends lower-risk activities this holiday season, such as household-only celebrations for Thanksgiving. State-issued guidelines for Thanksgiving call for "small and short" gatherings, with a cap of 25 people inside and 50 people outside.
