Jean Hickox was appointed last week as Attleboro High School's assistant principal for unified student services.
Hickox, who has been working at AHS for 16 years as a teacher, has worked in the language arts department and held other positions. Superintendent Pia Durkin said she talked to Hickox three years ago and she did not seem to intonate she wanted an administrative position.
"I've known Jean Hickox since I entered here," Durkin said. "She moved herself to become a dean of some very challenging students and had great relationships with kids. She then stepped up to the plate to become the testing coordinator as well as a dean at the high school, which as you can imagine, is quite extensive. That season never ends."

The screening committee chose Hickox among three finalists. AHS principal Bill Runey, who was on the committee, said Hickox fit AHS like a glove.
"The screening committee we put together for this position was one we wanted to be sure that represented every constituency that is the melting pot of Attleboro High School," Runey said. "As we navigated the process, to be able to find somebody that had been a part of that diligence, that passion, to turn Attleboro High School into the place to be, ended up becoming an important part. I will say Jean hit a home run with the screening committee."

He added, "As Dr. Durkin said, Jean has a fabulous work ethic. She does not punch a clock by any stretch of the imagination. I feel very good about her completing our administrative team at the high school."
Hickox said she looks forward to the new position.
"I am very honored and humbled," Hickox said. "I can promise you I will do my best every day and give you 110 percent, and I really look forward to it."
