Attleboro Mom and Son Rescued from MBTA Rail

Two anonymous people rescue a mother and her young son after she mistakenly walks onto the rail line in Cambridge.

A man jumped into the pit of the MBTA Kendall Station in Cambridge Wednesday evening to rescue a 4-year-old Attleboro boy who was stuck on the track while a woman rescued his mother, according to the Boston Herald. The two heroes jumped onto the next train without telling anybody their names.

The Herald reported:

The potentially deadly misstep took place as the woman entered the southbound platform at Kendall Station at around 6 p.m. yesterday and kept walking — without hesitation — past the yellow caution strip and right off the concrete platform, tumbling headfirst down onto the track bed 4 feet below.

MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said it appears the Attleboro woman believed the northbound train — which had pulled up on the opposite platform — was the one she wanted to board.

"The mother explained that she had seen a train at the northbound platform and believed she could board it," he said. "She was looking straight ahead and apparently did not see the pit or the southbound tracks below."
