Lawrence G. Poirier, 88, of Thacher Street, Attleboro, a retired machinist. passed on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at home. He was the loving, longtime companion of the late Alice R. Leonard. Born in Attleboro on April 19, 1925, he was a son of the late George and Emma (Cloutier) Poirier. Lawrence was educated at the Tiffany School in Attleboro. He worked in Attleboro at the former Union Plate and Wire Company, and later in Plainville when the company was acquired by the Engelhard Corporation, for a total of forty-four years as a machinist, lathe operator and press set up operator prior to retirement. He was a longtime communicant of the former Holy Ghost Church in Attleboro, where he served as a collector. Lawrence was a very active member of the Attleboro YMCA for many years. He also enjoyed working in his garden and playing tennis. Lawrence is survived by two nieces; Leslie Landry of North Attleboro, and Gail Housman of North Attleboro, three nephews; Rodney Poirier of Plainville, Guy Poirier of North Attleboro, and Lee Poirier of South Attleboro. He was the brother of the late Donald Poirier and the late Normand Poirier.
