Cassey's in Attleboro New, but Already a Hit

Customers can have a drink, eat food and watch the game while catching live music or a DJ.

Cassey Lamothe opened the sports bar and performance venue Cassey's Place in Attleboro about seven months ago, and her general manager and father-in-law say it has been quite a ride.

"It's Cassey's gig; she's a full-time teacher and runs the place," her father-in-law and bartender Al Monty said. "The place is only open at night because she's off at night."

Monty said both Cassey and general manager Lindsay O'Hara changed the location a great deal since it was known as the Moose Cabin. The previous venue was a family restaurant with many tables and sectioned-off spaces for tables and booths. Monty said they've opened up the space to make another horse shoe-shaped bar and a space for DJs and live music.

"We now have 60 seats at the bar," he said. "We're geared for people who want to come to a pub, listen to loud music and watch a game. We always have the sound system hooked up to the game so you can hear the announcers, but other than that it's all music."

Monty and his family also own the Gridiron Sports Bar in Somerset, and he said he was pleasantly surprised that two young individuals such as Lamothe and O'Hara could prove so successful in such a short time.

"What they've done with the place is pretty amazing for two 25-year-old girls," he said. "They've made it the place to be in Attleboro."

O'Hara said she has been working at the location for four years and loves the change.

"I was a bartender there and I just kind of got promoted," she said.

She said while the place has changed, there is still a sense of community and family within the bar. She said she sees customers from the old restaurant as well as many new faces.

"This is definitely a Cheers kind of attitude," she said. "The regulars kind of become family in this scenario. It's not like a club, you know everybody."

She added a great deal has been done to change the atmosphere in the bar. Among the changes is the addition of a photo booth, which is peculiar, considering so many people have cameras on their smartphones.

"Honestly, it gets used very often," Monty said.

He said the most popular food item at Cassey's is the chicken wings.

"Attleboro is definitely a chicken wing town," he said.

Although a variety of sauces are offered, the hot wings are the most popular.

"We don't call it nuclear, but we have mild, hot and blazing," he said. "We also have extra-blazing for the nuclear type of people who don't want to taste the wing, but just the burn. Asian sweet and sour, barbecue, honey mustard you name it, we have a lot of different wings. I don't even know what they all are off the top of my head.”

O'Hara said the most popular drink in the bar is a shot containing Grand Marnier, Kahula, Bailey's Irish Cream, whip cream and drizzled with Sambuca. The name of the drink is slightly objectionable.

"Let's just say you can't drink it with your hands," she said.

Monty said Cassey's is trying to get more involved in the Attleboro community, since Attleboro has given them great success in only a short time.

"We've hosted fundraising events and we didn't charge them for the banquet facility," he said.

Cassey's is located at 220 O'Neil Blvd. and is open 3 p.m. to 1 a.m.
