Name of Electroshocked Truck Driver Released

The 45-year-old man remains at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.

Massachusetts State Police on Friday identified Joseph O. Irorere, 45, of Brockton as the truck driver who suffered electric shock Thursday when he got out of his vehicle that had struck sagging power lines on Interstate 95 in Attleboro.

Irorere was at in an unreported condition as of Friday morning, according to the police.

The incident, which forced the freeway to close in both directions from about 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., is under investigation.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the wires sagged as a result of a structural issue on a utility pole set back from the highway," state police said in a statement.

Irorere was traveling northbound when his truck struck the lines. Another truck, driven by 55-year-old David Meltz of North Carolina, also struck the lines on the southbound side of the freeway. Meltz was not injured. At least four other passenger cars were damaged in the incident.
