Speedway Event Celebrates Seekonk's 200th

The event includes a benefit for the Ronald McDonald House of Providence.

The Seekonk 200 on Saturday, Sept. 29 combines the celebration of Seekonk's 200th anniversary with a track walk to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Providence  and 200 Laps of exciting racing at the .

The event will feature the Northeast Midget Association  in its showcase event "The Boston Louie Memorial Classic," which tentatively is scheduled to include NASCAR competitor Ken Schrader. Open wheel racer Bentley Warren will serve as the event grand marshal. The circuit's junior division, the NEMA Lites, will also compete in a 21-lap race.

The day will also include the fastest short track racecars in the world from the International Super Modified Association competing for 100 Laps. 2008 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Johnny Benson Jr. is expected to return to defend his 2010 and 2011 victories at the Cement Palace.

Competitors from throughout New England will race in the 50-lap Street Stock Race for the chance to win $1,000.

The day will begin with a track walk to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Providence. Information and forms are available atwww.RMHProvidence.com and at the Seekonk Town Clerk's Office, 100 Peck St. Last year's event raised $15,000. "Jackie" the Pink Fire Truck from R.I. Pink Heals is expected to be in attendance.

There will be a reduced ticket price for all Seekonk residents and, depending on sponsorship, a fireworks show will take place at the end of the event. Ayla Brown  of American Idol fame will sing the national anthem. Interested sponsors should contact Gary Sagar at 800-252-6830.
