Woman Slams Into Attleboro Home After Fleeing Crash: Police

After attempting to flee the scene of a hit-and-run crash, a 72-year-old woman slammed her car through an Attleboro home.

ATTLEBORO, MA — A 72-year-old woman is facing charges after police say they found her car flipped over inside a living room at a home on West Street early Thursday morning.

The crash happened at 5:30 a.m. waking up the family inside the home.

Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney says the woman who was driving the overturned car originally struck and damaged a vehicle about a quarter-mile away from the house she crashed into around on West Street.

Police say that as she attempted to flee the crash, then tried to take a turn at a "high rate of speed," losing control of the wheel. Heagney said she then swerved into a fire hydrant, a chainlink fence, and destroyed a porch before flying through the air and into the home's living room when the car flipped.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and no one inside the home was hurt.

The driver is facing charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, Heagney said.

The car has since been removed from the home and a building inspector will determine if the house is still safe enough to live in despite the extensive damage.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
