As part of the city's ongoing effort to reduce violence, officials announced an advertising campaign to promote Boston's "Text a Tip" program, which allows residents to send anonymous text message tips to the police department.
When it launched, it was the first of its kind in the country. The city's Crime Stoppers Unit has received close to 4,000 tips as a result of this campaign, according to a press release.
