📰 News we're reading

• Short Play Penned by Beacon Hill Resident Rob Whitney to Premiere Next Month in Newburyport (thebostonsun.com) — Back Bay theatergoers may recognize Lyric Stage Boston as one of the small venues inspiring Beacon Hill resident Rob Whitney, whose new short play “Puck” will premiere at Newburyport’s Firehouse Center New Works Festival in January. The nine-minute comedy-drama, drawn from conversations with his hockey-playing son, will be performed twice during the two-day festival and marks Whitney’s debut as a playwright.

• New Regulations for Boston Food Delivery Companies Set for January as Safety Concerns Rise around e-bikes and Scooters (thebostonsun.com) — New safety rules for food delivery companies are coming to Boston in January, prompted in part by a deadly September collision involving an e-bike delivery driver in Back Bay. The ordinance will require insurance, licensing and data-sharing from delivery apps, while police step up enforcement against unsafe scooter and moped riding in nearby neighborhoods like Beacon Hill.

• Boston's biggest New Year's events for 2025–26 (axios.com) — If you’ll be in or near Back Bay on New Year’s Eve, First Night Boston’s free performances, ice shows and fireworks will spill through the neighborhood, Downtown and the Common. You can also choose harbor fireworks, Pops concerts, cruises, rooftop parties, skating shows and more to ring in 2026 across the city.
