East Boston Man Charged with Stealing Coats, Tried to Hide in the Westin Hotel

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate a conviction.

Officers responded to a report of a larceny in progress at 2:45 p.m. on February 28 at 760 Boylston Street.

Officers were informed that store employees were chasing the suspect up Dartmouth Street towards Back Bay Station. The suspect was described as a white male wearing a leather jacket. He was wanted for taking several leather jackets and a few more items.

While officers patrolled the area for the suspect, a 911 call came in about a man “attempting to steal from a man’s coat” inside the Westin Hotel. The caller reported that a man ran up to him in the restricted area of the fourth floor of the hotel demanding that he be hidden. “You need to hide me,” the suspect reportedly said. “I just stole some coats.”

The caller pointed officers to the men’s room. Officers detained the suspect, but were unable to find the coats.

Ryan Hurley of 177 London Street, East Boston was charged with larceny $200 or more.
