Finnish Design Company to Open on Newbury

A popular Finnish textile and design company plans to open it's third US store at 140 Newbury Street in July.

Marimekko, known for its original prints and bright colors, sells home decor, clothing, bags and accessories and fabrics. 

They opened their first store US in Manhattan in October 2011, and also took over a Cambridge concept store in November. The company plans to boost its brand on the East and West Coasts, CEO Mika Ihamuotila told the Boston Herald:

“We have longer traditions in these regions, and we believe they have greater natural demand for our products. Our long-term goal is to extend our distribution in the U.S. through high-end department stores and specialist retailers and by opening new Marimekko stores.”
