Lenox Hotel Owners Receive World Recognition

The Sauders Hotel Group received one of the "The Academy Awards of the tourism industry."

The group that owns the was recently recognized for worldwide leadership in sustainable tourism with one of the most prestigious awards in the travel and tourism industry. 

The Saunders Hotel Group, a third generation family business, accepted the Community Benefit Award during the World Travel and Tourism Council's annual Global Summit in Tokyo, Japan.

President and CEO Jeffrey Saunders, of Newton, said he was honored that their company was singled out as a corporate role model.

“As a family business, we strongly believe that the commitment to helping people in need is part of our mission,” Saunders said. 

The recognition is part of the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, often referred to as "The Academy Awards of the tourism industry." The Saunders Hotel Group was commended for its work supporting local and national non-profits, volunteering at organizations, and providing financial back and other in-kind resources.

The company, for instance, offers scholarships to students attending the Newbury College hotel and restaurant management school. Members also serve on a number of local boards - from the Back Bay Association and Friends of Copley Square, to Boston Green Tourism, and the Governor’s Council for Travel and Tourism.

“We are firmly rooted in our commitment to sustainability in all that we do,” said Tedd Saunders, Chief Sustainability Officer of the Saunders Hotel Group. “Twenty-three years ago we pioneered green hotel practices at our properties, which led to many industry firsts and dovetailed with our family’s generational efforts to improve the lives of our team members and neighbors. It is so gratifying to be recognized for our company-wide achievements.”
