Malden Man Charged with Trying to Break into Back Bay Cars

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

A Malden man was charged with trying to break in to people’s cars in the Back Bay at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 4.  

Officers responded to a report of two men breaking into a motor vehicle near Clarendon and Marlborough Street. The caller described the males as white, one in his late 20’s, about 5’11’’ in a black shirt, blue jeans and gloves. The other suspect was described only as having a black bag. The witness told police that they fled down the alleyway towards Arlington Street.  

Officers located a man who matched the descriptions of the man in blue jeans and a black shirt on Arlington Street. When the officer pulled up next to him, the officer and the suspect made eye contact. At this point, the suspect turned and changed his direction. The officer exited his vehicle and asked to talk to the suspect. The suspect reportedly ignored the officer and began to sprint up Arlington Street. Officers chased the suspect and were able to stop him near Charles Street and Beacon Street.

During a pat and frisk, officers recovered a screwdriver and a small pocket flashlight.   The witness pointed out the vehicles, which the two suspects had tried the locks on. The witness could only identify the suspect’s clothes, not their face. Officers observed no damage to any of the vehicles and no signs of forced entry.   When the officers ran query on the suspect, they found that he had several open breaking and entering cases.  

Kevin Donovan of 22 Lebanon Street, Malden was arrested and charged with possession of burglarious tools.
