Police: Man Threw Brick Through Sunglass Hut Storefront

Boston Police Officers observed two males wrestling in the middle of Newbury Street between Dartmouth Street and Exeter Street at about 5:18 a.m. on Friday, April 26.
The officer exited his marked car and spoke to the witness, who said that while working at Joe’s American Bar and Grill, he observed three white males smash the front door of Sunglass Hut at 182 Newbury Street.
The witness told officers that two of the men climbed through the broken glass door and emerge from the store carrying several pairs of sunglasses and put them in a car parked in front of the store. The witness said that he observed the three men flee on foot on Newbury Street and turn onto Exeter Street.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle. A witness was able to detain one of the suspects. Officers performed a pat and frisk and reportedly found a hypodermic needle in the suspect’s rear pocket.
Officers found at least 15 pairs of various designer sunglasses on the sidewalk near the broken front door of Sunglass Hut and near the abandoned vehicle. Several pairs of sunglasses were reported damaged. Officers also found a blue T-shirt tied of a knot with a piece of a brick in it. A full brick was found near the shattered door as well. Officers broadcasted the description of the two other suspects, who got away.

Officers arrested Brian Gibson of 288 East Eighth Streetm Boston, and charged him with breaking and entering, destruction of personal property, and larceny over $250.
