Replaced Trees Still Dying in Copley Square

A number of diseased trees were replaced, but not all of them have survived.

In May the city and Friends of Copley Square . But two months later, a handful of the samplings are dead.

But, this is normal.

"While most of the new trees are growing, some have died and others many not survive, which is not uncommon after transplantation," according to a notice from the Friends of Copley Square posted on the dying saplings. "Any newly planted trees that do not survive will be replaced in September - a good time for planting ... " They're also covered by a warranty.

In addition to the 20 trees that were replaced, the Friends and Boston Parks and Recreation Department, on the advice of a hired consultant,  inoculated 31 trees with sustained leave damage and suffering from various causes of blight.

They are all being watered, maintained and watched carefully.
