1 Dead In Multi-Car Cape Cod Crash

Route 6 on Cape Cod was closed on Monday after multiple accidents. Officials said one person died in a Brewster crash.

CAPE COD, MA — The Orleans Police Department reported on Monday that Route 6 on Cape Cod was closed because of "multiple" accidents.

State Police later confirmed that one person had died in a Brewster crash.

Around 4 p.m. on Monday, Orleans police shared that the roadway was closed between exit 85 and 89 due to accidents.

State Police said troopers responded to a three-car crash around 3:15 p.m. near exit 85.

A 24-year-old man, from Yarmouth, was driving westbound when his truck crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit a Toyota pickup, according to an investigation.

The driver of the Toyota, Edward Footer, 57, of Chatham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 24-year-old driver also hit another vehicle, but police said the driver of the third car was uninjured.

The 24-year-old suffered serious injuries, however, and was taken to a local Cape Cod hospital from the scene.
